Why read the Beyond Better Blog?
The blog lives at the intersection of multiple subjects. First and foremost, I am a professional strategist. So I see things through that prism—the idea of creating thoughtful and logical ways to achieve very unlikely but worthwhile goals.
I work with high-growth start-ups as they scale from seed through Series A, B and C funding rounds. That’s a period of time during which every possible aspect of the organization goes through tremendous change. And strategy tends to get neglected, even though it’s incredibly important.
So, I write about that. About the challenges of leading, managing, and scaling an organization; about how to scale yourself—or to develop your team for the future. Sometimes the challenges revolve around operations: knowledge management, remote teams, building a culture virtually or deciding when to fire someone. It’s a big and varied soup of subjects. But if you work in any kind of organization and have an interest in growing yourself, your team or your results, you’ll probably dig this blog.
I also publish a more personal sub-blog. It’s also available here and is called Two Or More Opposing Ideas. It really is just where I write stuff that I’m thinking that doesn’t fit the remit of the main blog. You can easily subscribe to that section by going to it from the top menu. But you won’t automatically receive those unless you opt in. I’ve written there about everything from annoying middle-aged memory lapses to my own current struggle with facial paralysis from Bell’s Palsy. It sounds like a downer… but I usually find some humor in everything!
